Following on from our recent article where we introduced the 'postdigital learning journey', Laura Bissell (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), David Bissell (University of Edinburgh) and I are glad to now launch a book project that will critically pursue this concept. As our Call for Chapters explains, the term ‘learning journey’ accommodates a range of interpretations, and we are interested in gathering critical perspectives from academic researchers, artists and activists from across disciplines and contexts. A learning journey can be literal or metaphorical. It is used to describe, among other things, field trips, academic travel, a student's path through a course or programme of study, and the personal pursuit of knowledge or enlightenment. Some learning journeys are associated with pleasure (such as the school outing, the Grand Tour, flanerie and other urban exploration) while other learning journeys are trepidatious or undertaken forcibly (precarious employment that uproots early career academics, the challenges of participating in education as a displaced person, and others). The deadline for chapter abstracts (300 words) is 1 May 2025. Get in touch if you’d like a chat or have any questions. Your browser does not support viewing this document.
