A bit of freewriting this afternoon, whilst listening to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. This wasn't intended to be freewriting, but that's how it turned out. This could be inserted within the Literature Review as a metaphorical device for critically reflecting on how some of the literature encourages us to think in terms of new and old or shifts between page and screen, whereas in reality it's not as clear cut as that.
‘In this way we might imagine the pen, writing pad and traditional textbook being moved aside from the centre of the scholar’s desk in order to accommodate the laptop.’
‘To return to the metaphor of the displacement of the text book and writing tools on the scholar’s desk, perhaps we should instead think in terms of the desktop on the students palmtop device, where the word processor menu bar sits minimized at the bottom of the screen, alongside that of the graphics package and the audio editing software, as the student jumps between the different tools to craft her multimodal artefact.’
