I wonder whether I might extend the observation to include architecture or even music, on the basis that they too use 'alternative' assessment?

Meanwhile, I presume the next step is to redraft the research proposal and submit to Jen (?) alongside a note indicating the formal commencement of the dissertation?

Hi James

The thing to do next is to draft the proposal and agree it with me as 
your supervisor. You also need to complete the School ethical approval 
form and send it to me. Once we've agreed the final dissertation shape, 
and that the approach is OK in terms of ethics, I will let Jen know you 
have formally started, and at that point you should enrol on the 
dissertation formally.

I'm attaching the ethics form - just shout if it's not clear and I can 
help. Likewise with the drafting of the proposal.
